For each ECDIS Unit purchased from Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine, you will receive 5 free licences for the Safebridge ECDIS type specific training course. With a maximum of 15 licences per vessel. When you purchase a VisionMaster FT ECDIS node, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will verify the sale, the sales order number, the quantity and type of stations sold and you will be emailed the license numbers along with the required site address and login process.
Once the user starts their course The VisionMaster FT ECDIS or ECDIS-E live system is loaded onto the Safebridge server and a separate window will appear on the users desktop. The user is able to remotely control the VisionMaster FT ECDIS or ECDIS-E on the Safebridge server via their computer. The user is then taken step by step through a number of modules as if they were using the actual equipment. Simulated scenarios and a variety of E-learning tools will be made available to the user that will help them navigate through the live system.
The course covered will be compatible to versions 5 of the VisionMaster FT ECDIS and ECDIS-E system.
Once you have received the licence numbers from Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine, you will be required to book the course via the Safebridge platform. This is also applicable to packages and fleet booking arrangements. Please contact your sales representative if you haven't received any licence numbers.
The course is paid per time period (3 weeks after first login). Within this period the user can complete the course or parts of it as often as they would like. After the 3 week period had expired, the user will be required to purchase a new course.
No. It covers the type-specific part of ECDIS training, also termed familiarisation. It is an additional mandatory requirement to the initial generic training, which is a pre-requisite to taking the Safebridge courses. Safebridge may include generic training at a later stage to complement the portfolio. Generic training is currently available through Safebridge's sister company, MSG MarineServe and its ETC international network, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine's training centre and other certified training centres.
Whilst generic training requires Flag State approval, type specific training does not, but it is wise for the client to check his own Flag State position or with Safebridge on this question, as these vary considerably. The IMO requires manufacturer approval; of type-specific training. The IMO Model Course 1.27 consists of two parts, each carrying its own certificate. Port State Control and other authorities will therefore expect separate documentary evidence on type specific training as well as checking actual competence. Certificates issued by Safebridge who have developed each course based on close collaboration with the type-specific system manufacturer are Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine; approved and will carry the Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine logo and equipment data.
Upon successful completion of the test, a certificate will be sent to either the individual or shipping company / crewing agency in the case of multiple bookings. The certificate will be issued by Safebridge by email. Certificates in hard copy are available upon requested and charges apply.
Option 1: The student has to take the test under the supervision of his/her employer or his representative. Option 2: It will be possible to take the test via the internet after identification with an electronic ID document, e.g. an electronic passport.
Safebridge is responsible for the storage and protection of personal data according to the strict laws on data protection. The only personal data which is accessible to third parties is the data needed for validation of the certificates
